Have had a wonderful relaxing time over the last two days, we found the romantic setting we were looking for and have enjoyed every minute. The little kitchen is perfect for cooking breakfast and the quirky kettle has amused us with its strange noises and makes a great cup of tea. The shower is amazing, so lovely and a real luxury in such a small space.
A weekend of sunshine and showers, didn’t matter as the hut was cosy and warm.
A wonderful stay for us!!!!

‘An Ode to the Shepherds Hut’
You are far from being a humble Shepherds hut with your colourful crockery, spotty cushions and striped blinds you have been decorated by someone with a flair for style.
Your eco credentials are second to none, a wind powered shower that better than our one at home!
Whether spending time with family or friends there is a multitude of books and games to suit every age.
Dinky kitchen and fridge, so much fun to use. Food tastes better here – i wonder why?
At night-time with the wood-burner fired up and toadstool night lights lit you are magical and that’s before we even begin to investigate all the wildlife just outside our door.
Soft sheets, comfy bed, what better place to drift off to the land of dreams.
Oh Shepherds hut we love you so. There will always be a place for you in our hearts.
Charlie, Dave, Cole, Mary and Ian.

August 2012 – Our summer holiday
We stayed at these wonderful huts during the boys half term holiday in June, and we were all keen to return. We had a great time exploring Bentley and the open space around the huts and the swing was again a big hit!
Our previous family size of four has recently expanded, yet the shepherds huts still provided us with all we needed - quite an achievement when you have a six-week old baby with you! I agree with previous occupants regarding meals out – we enjoyed a good lunch at ‘The Ram’ and evening meal at ‘The Cock’.
Another great short break away and I’m sure we will return.
Many thanks. James, Katy, Oliver, Ben and Tom
25th -27th August
Immaculate and very comfortable Shepherds hut with every detail thought of. The children loved it.

Had a fantastic one night stay at The Shepherds hut – what a find!
Weather cleared up nicely and we were able to sit next to the fire toasting marshmallows with the kids.
Enjoyed a superb feast from the Buttercup Cafe in Lewes. Spare ribs and 3 delicious salads delivered in Indian tiffin boxes. Made my husbands birthday even more special.
Would definitely come and stay here again. Great location and thoughtfully done out, kids loved the little sleeping bags and multi-coloured cutlery and crockery. Many thanks, Laura, Colin, Kitty and Joe.

What a delightful little hideaway! Yes, as previously mentioned it is like a wendy house! I always wanted to play in our children’s’ when they had one!!
Such a peaceful location and superb weather.
One night wasn’t enough but it was a wonderful treat for my 58th birthday. Back to the real world now!
Thank you so much. Judi and Adrian – Lingfield
12th -13th August
Thanks for a wonderful stay at The Rolling Downs. We were literally blown away by the hut, how beautiful, well equipped and comfortable it is. Every design aspect has been considered, you’d have to be extremely picky to find fault!
My 4-year-old couldn’t get enough of the ‘high bed’ sitting up there to read stories and play games. And the swing was a big hit.
None of us are rea; ‘campers’ but have been when we were kids. The Rolling Downs has all the advantages of camping without any of the disadvantages.
To be honest, when i saw the proper coffee i was sold!
Thanks again Claire, Lexie, Callie and Hannah – www.brightonmums.com
10th – 12th August
I booked ‘ The Rolling Downs as a surprise for my husbands and we have had a magical weekend in your wonderful shepherds hut.
We cooked sea bream with herb butter on the fire pit on Friday evening which was wonderful accompanied by a few glasses of bubbly and rose wine and lit tea lights, the atmosphere was fantastic and a great way to start our weekend.
We visited Alfriston on Saturday morning, a visit to the book shop there is a must and lunch at the Wingrove. In the afternoon a visit to ‘ Beachy head’ and the ‘seven sisters’ stunning views.
Saturday evening a lovely meal at ‘The Ram Inn’ which Clare recommended and was excellent.
Your hut is so beautifully done inside, every detail is perfect. We will be back and will certainly tell others that ‘The Rolling Downs’ is a must in their diaries.

3rd – 5th August
All 6 of us have had a fab weekend. my nephews had a ball and kept wanting to go back to camp. The huts are so welcoming and beautifully decorated, you couldn’t want for more. A great hideaway.
Highly recommend the Bentley tea rooms, food is all homemade and lovely.
We would love to come back. Lynda, Michael, Jay,Jo, Tom and Joe.
29th July – 1st August
We have had a wonderful time at the shepherd’s hut, found by accident on the internet. It is the perfect hideaway for a short break not too far from home.
We loved the interior, furnishings and coloured crockery, the board games and outdoor games provided endless fun. We visited Lewes – would highly recommend ‘bills’ for lunch, we also visited paradise park in Newhaven which is great for kids and watched the big ferry come into port.
We have seen countless rabbits and a buzzard and on our last evening 2 deer.
What a relaxing stay, we will be back! Amanda, Darren and Samuel.
15th July
Cute and cosy! We had a lovely stay at the shepherd’s hut for our 2 year anniversary. We enjoyed strolling round the fields and spotting some of the wildlife, including two barn owls!
After much perspiration we managed to create a toasty fire which was fun to dance around. Local pubs have good food, we ate at the Ship Inn – had the scallops and mussels…amazing.
We loved the interior of the hut, beautifully done. We especially enjoyed the fish flipping game which we became addicted to and played into the wee hours! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A very last-minute unexpected way but just what we needed for our 5th wedding anniversary. A lovely hideaway, thanks.

8 -13th July
We were enchanted by the shepherd’s hut on our visit to last years wood fair and almost on a whim – booked and…….hooked! What a wonderful hideaway a veritable ” mod con” miniature – so cosy, with nothing lacking. We have really enjoyed the peace and solitude and exploring this chillaxed part of the world – Lewes (Bills was great ) Bodiam Castle ( awesome!) Battle (wonderful scarecrow competition) Birling gap/7 sisters/ Beachy head in a howling gale – Don’t mention the weather! Well, no need really we’ve been too fully occupied during the day and evening to be deterred or depressed. The woodburner gave us a toasty treat even though the evenings weren’t cold we just fancied the experience! And what wonderful wildlife, watching them from the hut transformed it into a wildlife lodge aka Africa! Deer, barn owls, foxes, stoat, kestrels have all put in appearances - magic! We would love to return to this happy haven in the future, preferably when we can star gaze for more than 5 minutes, in between the cloudy cover!
Janet and Gary Smith, Hertfordshire
3rd-5th July
Coming from London the shepherd’s hut is not dissimilar in size to our flat, but the view is a lot more pleasing for sure!
The perfect place to celebrate a 40th birthday. The setting is so peaceful and we loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. We especially enjoyed drinks by the fire outside, bat-watching and the delicious meal and cake from the Buttercup Cafe.
The interior design of the hut is fantastic – everything you need is here and it is very comfortable. Days out to Firle (food at the Ram Inn was excellent) and a paddle down the river Ouse in a boat from The Anchor Inn was unbelievably idyllic. We don’t want to leave!

absolutely wonderful i booked it on a ‘whim’ and the hut, setting, everything delivered more than expected. We would love to stay again.
We can recommend 2 places in Lewes, Baltica – a polish cafe at the top of the high street and Bill’s near Waitrose at the bottom of the hill.
Thanks again, it’s lovely

We have had a wonderful weekend in the shepherd’s hut! The weather stayed dry and the hut provided the perfect place to stay…
The bed was extremely comfortable and we had amazing nights sleep both nights.
The hut contains everything you could need and has been decorated to an excellent standard – all finishes are lovely from the mini blind on the door to the toadstool night lights.

Thank you for a lovely stay. We liked the little mushroom lights and the little rabbit which came to nibble the grass at the bottom of the stairs. Also we liked having camp fires!

A magical and memorable evening to celebrate my mum’s (62nd) birthday.
After a wet but enjoyable afternoon on the Bluebell railway we were delighted to have a clear evening – we even managed to sit at the picnic bench outside with some celebratory sparkling wine.
After a delicious homemade butterbean and hollumi stew (made the night before from Bill’s cookbook – seemed appropriate) we enjoyed more wine, card games and laughter. This is a wonderful place – feel we have been away longer than 24hrs. Already planning our next visit!

Wow, fab, peaceful, amazing, are some words that spring to mind. Bird watching, fox watching, batting were just too wonderful to put into words.
We are bat watchers/listeners so took the advantage of bringing our bat box.
The whole experience was TRULY impressive, waking up at dawn with the chorus was a true melody then sitting in bed drinking champagne and watching a fox was what the countryside is all about!
The hut seems to be a labour of love, every detail thought about, my husband being an engineer was very impressed with all detail of work , like the screws lined up vertically. Well done, wishing you both every success.

27th – 30th April 2012
What an amazing way to celebrate a 70th birthday – reverting to the ‘soul food’ of life!
We arrived in warm sunshine/showers and were honoured to see the barn owl in flight during our evening stroll. Once the wood burner got going the hut was a joy to be in and we slept like the proverbial logs in a large, comfy bed.
28th brought heavy rain – so we joined our youngest daughter for an afternoon on ‘The Bluebell line’ steam train. Trip down memory lane in the delightful old style!
29th better weather so did woodland walk before delicious sunday lunch at the friendly ‘Cock Inn’ – followed by a walk around Ouse river at Isfield with views of ‘Lavender line’ railway by way of a bonus.
Thanks for lending us this design masterpiece!
P.s. We saw a fox at dusk – plus buzzard in morning! Mike and G - East Anglia
26th April 2012
The best night’s sleep I’ve had in years, a warm very comfortable bed. A great time for my 60th!! The shepherd’s hut is beautifully finished and well thought out.
We have had a great time despite the weather being wet and windy, we had dinner at the ‘Cock Inn’, all very good and worth a visit.
I went out like a light as soon as we went to bed.
We will definitely come again. Sheila and Clive – Hertfordshire
23rd – 26th April 2012
We’ve had an absolutely lovely time. The shepherd’s hut was everything we expected and more – beautiful furnishing and you’ve thought of everything!
We had a fantastic time building campfires and cooking outdoors – we can highly recommend trying baked camembert, figs and honey parcels on the fire pit!
The surrounding views are beautiful and we saw so may stars at night.
We tried the Ram Inn for sunday lunch – delicious! Heathfield farmers market for lovely sausages and walking from East Dean up to Beachy head for beautiful views of the Seven Sisters.
We will definitely be coming to stay in the lovely cosy shepherds hut again! Celeste and David
13th-15th April 2012
We had a lovely time even though it was cold! Had fantastic meals at The Griffin Inn and The Cock Inn.
The shepherd’s hut is pure genius – we second the sentiments of previous guests. Our children absolutely loved it.
We would definitely come again! Jules and family
10th April 2012
A very pleasant and comfortable stay in your shepherd’s hut. It was very cosy with the log burning stove. We had an excellent dinner at ‘Bills’ in Lewes. David and Anthea
Easter weekend 2012
We visited Bentley a few weeks ago and fell in love with the shepherds huts from a distance. Dave picked up a postcard of them in the tea rooms and we were luck enough to book our stay over the easter weekend. Even though we had a good look at the website nothing could prepare us for the ‘wow’ factor when on Good Friday in blazing sunshine we opened our hut for the first time. Whoever designed them is a genius and the use of space is amazing as is the attention to detail in the soft furnishings, there simply isn’t a thing missing.
Our favourite touches were the wood burner that had us snug and toasty, the shower baking hot and such luxury after a day out wandering the countryside. The bright coloured crockery made me smile every time, i used the ‘toaster’ very clever! The beds were so comfy and our little boy loved all the games. Whoever owns these delightful huts has made them so homely and the suprise easter eggs on our door when we returned was so thoughtful!
If you are visiting we would highly recommend a meal at ‘the Cock Inn’ and half an hours drive away the National Trust house called Standen was amazing. We have had the best camping or should i say ‘glamping’ experience ever and will be telling our friends – although we will book ourselves another stay before you get booked up! Thank you so much Charlie, Dave and Cole
Have just spent a wonderful few days in the ‘little hut’, my partner and i found it so comfortable we had the log burner going which made it so snug. Everything was well thought out and wanting for nothing. My daughter and Son-in-law and grandson were staying in the big one and my daughter cooked some delicious meals, we played games in the evenings. We visited Bentley which was most enjoyable for all of us, my grandson loved the train. Easter Sunday had an easter egg hunt and we visited Standen.
We went for an evening meal at ‘The Cock Inn’ which was very good with an extensive menu to suit all. The time has passed far too quickly and we are reluctant to go home. Mary and Ian
